Civil Traffic Citation

You have just received a complaint for a traffic offense and are probably asking yourself "What do I do now?" If the charges are DUI, drag racing, reckless driving, or driving on a suspended license, you must appear in Court on the Appearance Date and time listed on your complaint and go before a Judge.

FOR ALL OTHER OFFENSES, you may:

  • Pay the fine by mail, before your appearance date. Click on PAYING THE FINE BY MAIL for a printable form for mailing. (You are pleading responsible or no contest to the charge on the complaint, and the case will be closed).
  • Pay the fine by appearing at the traffic window at the Court between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on or before your APPEARANCE DATE listed on the complaint.
  • Request a hearing by mail. Follow the instructions for SETTING A HEARING DATE BY MAIL. (You are pleading not responsible to the charge on the complaint).
  • YOU MAY ALSO REQUEST A HEARING BY APPEARING at the traffic window of the Court between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., on or before your APPEARANCE DATE listed on the complaint.

FAILURE TO RESPOND by the APPEARANCE DATE on a CIVIL Traffic complaint will result in a default judgment being entered against you. A civil fine amount will be imposed (the amount listed on the fine schedule, plus $97.00 default fees), the Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) will be notified, your case will be sent to a collection agency, and your license will be suspended until the entire fee is paid to the Court.

FAILURE TO RESPOND by the APPEARANCE DATE on a CRIMINAL Traffic complaint will result in a warrant for your arrest being issued and your license being suspended.
