The South Tucson City Council heard a presentation from the City Manager regarding this JAG application at its regular meeting May 14, 2012. Mayor and Council were previously briefed on police spending priorities as part of regular budget planning.
An announcement regarding this grant application was posted on the City of South Tucson website (www.southtucson.org) on May 14, 2012 and will remain there until June 15, 2012. The announcement is as follows:
Applicant: City of South Tucson
Project Title: South Tucson Police Equipment and Training
Goals: To promote officer safety by providing continuing training for sworn officers and civilian employees to maintain skills and thereby, to replace supplies and update interagency communications systems without reliance on general fund resources.
Strategies: The South Tucson Police Department will take advantage of available training opportunities for officers and civilian employees. STPD will make use of funds to purchase target ammo for police skills maintenance. STPD will use funds to replace basic evidence and property supplies and to continue hardware upgrades to communications systems in patrol vehicles.
